DMV.ORG Donates $30,000 to B.R.A.K.E.S. at Teen Driving Safety Course

B.R.A.K.E.S. Trains Its 20,000th Teen Student in San Diego

ENCINITAS, CA--(August 3, 2016) - DMV.ORG, the nation's largest independent resource for DMV-related information and services, today announced it's making a donation of $30,000 to B.R.A.K.E.S., a 501(c)3 organization that provides free advanced driver's education to teen drivers.

Bob Kurilko, DMV.ORG President & Chief Operating Officer, along with DMV.ORG team members presented the $30,000 check to Doug Herbert, the founder of B.R.A.K.E.S., on Friday, July 29, 2016 at B.R.A.K.E.S.' Teen Pro-Active Driving School event at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, CA. This is the first time B.R.A.K.E.S. has brought its teen-centric, hands-on advanced defensive driving course to San Diego. The sold-out event hosted 150 teens and 200 parents over two days.

“We simply wouldn't be in San Diego without DMV.ORG. Their support and cooperation is the reason we are here,'' said Herbert. “Who knows how many potential lives we saved? You don't know, but there is going to be a couple hundred safer drivers on the road because of this weekend. I think a lot of credit goes to DMV.ORG for helping make this happen." He continued, “We trained our 20,000th student in San Diego this weekend. One at time, that is a lot of students."

Steven Jerromes of Vista, CA, one of 200 parents at the event this weekend, said, “This is a wonderful experience. The dedication that the highly experienced B.R.A.K.E.S. driving instructors show is wonderful and potentially life saving. I recommend it highly for anybody who's even thinking about doing it. Just go ahead and do it."

Jerromes' daughter, Jessica Jerromes, age 16, was one of the 150 teens trained this past weekend. “I was really nervous coming into this," she said. “But I feel a lot more confident as a driver now. I think I will be able to handle driving situations a lot better."

Kelli Jensen, DMV.ORG's Impact Program Manager, said, “I'm proud to work for a company that includes giving back to the community as one of its core values. It's part of what makes working here special." She continued, “It is our pleasure to support B.R.A.K.E.S. with our financial giveback this year. Their goal of helping make our roads safer aligns with our Impact Program's vision. We look forward to a long relationship with B.R.A.K.E.S."

B.R.A.K.E.S. is scheduled to hold its Teen Pro-Active Driving School events at 20 locations across the country through the end of the 2016. To learn more about B.R.A.K.E.S.' safe driving program, register for an event, or learn how you can get involved with B.R.A.K.E.S., visit putonthebrakes.org.
