Special License Plates in Oklahoma
Oklahoma special plates are offered for a wide range of interests and subjects. You can order personalized tags, plates for organizations and hobbies, and military plates. You can apply for most plates by mail or in person. Oklahoma does NOT offer a license plate look up service.

How to Get Personalized Plates in Oklahoma
In Oklahoma, many types of license plates can be personalized with a custom tag number, including plates with various background colors and several special license plates.
You'll pay a fee for a personalized plate IN ADDITION to your registration fees and renewal fees. The fees for standard personalized license plate are:
- $26.15 to order.
- $21.66 to renew.

Apply for Personalized Plates
To apply for an OK personalized plate, you'll need:
- The appropriate application:
- Passenger vehicle plates: Personalized License Plate Application (Form 749).
- Motorcycle plates: Motorcycle Personalized License Plate Application (Form 746).
- Payment for the applicable fees:
- Application fee: $26.15.
- Registration fees if you're also registering your vehicle.
Submit your application by mail to the address on the form.
Special License Plates
The OKTC offers a wide range of specialty license plates in several categories, including plates for charities, membership groups, colleges, and other organizations.
License plates are available for:
- Special interests or groups, such as:
- Boy Scouts of America.
- Classic or antique vehicles.
- Schools, colleges, and Greek organizations, for example:
- Alpha Phi Alpha.
- OKC Central High School.
- Oklahoma State University.
- Civil servants, including:
- Firefighters.
- Police officers.
- Firefighters.
- Native American Tribes, specifically:
- The Chickasaw Nation.
- The Choctaw Nation.
Be sure to review eligibility requirements for the license plate you want. Special license plates may be:
- Available to anyone who wants to show his or her support.
- Restricted to members or people affiliated with an organization.
OR - Limited to certain types of vehicles, such as antique car plates.

Apply for Special Plates
To apply for special and/or personalized license plates in Oklahoma:
- Choose your desired plate type from the following categories:
- Complete the appropriate application.
- The application will be provided when you click on your plate.
- Provide payment for the plate fee.
- Gather any required proof of eligibility/supporting documents for your plate.
- See the application form for requirements.
- Submit all of the above either in person or by mail (if applicable).

Special Plate Fees
Fees for special license plates in OK vary based on the type of plate you order.
These fees are charged IN ADDITION to your standard registration fees and regular renewal fees.
Below are examples of the fees you can expect to pay for most special plates:
- Boy Scouts of America license plate:
- $41.15 to order.
- $36.66 to renew.
- Alpha Phi Alpha license plate:
- $21.15 to order.
- $16.66 to renew.
- Personalized Chickasaw Nation plate:
- $25.15 to order.
- $21.66 to renew.
Personalization is optional for some license plates and required for others, often with no additional fee.

OK Military License Plates
Many military license plates are available from the OKTC, including plates for:
- Branches of military service, such as:
- United States Army.
- United States Marine Corps.
- Combat experience, including:
- Desert Storm.
- Vietnam veterans.
- Military honors, for example:
- The Distinguished Service Medal.
- The Legion of Merit.
Some military tags are also available as motorcycle plates.
Eligibility Requirements
Military tags are available only to service members, retirees, veterans, or families with the appropriate proof of eligibility.
Accepted forms of proof vary for each type of plate and are listed on the application.
Apply for Military License Plates
To apply for a military plate:
- Visit the OKTC military plate page and choose the plate you want.
- Complete the relevant license plate application.
- Provide:
- Payment for fees.
- Required proof of eligibility.
- Submit the above items:
- In person at an OKTC tag office.
OR - By mail to the address on the form.
- In person at an OKTC tag office.
Fees for Military Plates
Plate fees are charged IN ADDITION to regular vehicle registration fees and renewal fees:
- Most military honor plates are:
- $14.15 to order.
- $9.66 to renew.
- Most branch of service license plates are:
- $14.15 to order.
- $9.66 to renew.
Some military plates can be personalized.

Renew, Replace, or Transfer Plates
Renew Specialty Plates
OK special license plates get renewed when you renew your vehicle registration. You will fill out the same application form you used for your original application. The renewal fee will be listed on the form.
You can obtain your renewal decals at either:
- Your local OK tag office.
- The Oklahoma Tax Commission office.
- The address is found on the form.
To renew, you'll need your current special plate number.

Replace a Special License Plate
If your special Oklahoma plates get lost, stolen, or damaged, take the following steps:
- Complete the same application you used to apply for your license plate and select the “Original or Replacement" box.
- Complete an Affidavit for Replacement License Plate/Decal – Annual Boat/Outboard Motor Decal (Form 797-D).
- Pay the replacement fee.
- The fee is typically the same as the initial application fee.
- Submit all of the above to the address on the application form.
Transfer Special Plates
If you need to transfer your Oklahoma special plates to another car you own, you must:
- Complete the Request to Transfer a Special License Plate (Form 783-A).
- Submit the form to the address on the plate.
- A confirmation mail fee of $1.66 will apply.
NOTE: You cannot use this form to transfer any of the following plate types:
- Prisoner of War.
- Disabled American Veteran.
- Gold Star.
- Vintage.
