Bill of Sale in Ohio
Ohio generally does not require a bill of sale, and it does not provide a template for completing a bill of sale. In certain situations, you may need one for vehicles purchased out-of-state or for imported vehicles.
That said, you may want a bill of sale as proof of purchase or sale for:
- Tax purposes.
- As a receipt for your files (which may prove helpful if you move to a bill of sale state).
- As protection against legal issues down the line.
Bill of Sale Requirements
Your bill of sale should include the following pieces of information:
- A vehicle description and vehicle identification number (VIN).
- Warranty information.
- The vehicle's final sale price.
- Names of the buyer and seller.
- The county and state where you bought or sold the vehicle.
If you do need a bill of sale, you should fill it out and take it to a County Clerk of Courts title office, where it can be used to calculate the amount of sales tax you'll owe Ohio.
