Change of Address FAQs

How long do I have to change my address with the DMV?
Maryland sets its own deadline for updating your license and registration after a move. The Maryland steps above list the window and what to file—do it promptly so tickets, registration holds, or insurance mismatches don't pile up.
Can I change my address with the DMV online?
Maryland may offer online, mail, and/or in-person address updates for your license or registration. The steps above show which routes apply here. REAL ID changes often still need an office visit even when a basic address update is online.
Do I need to update the address on my car title too?
Your vehicle registration address must stay current; the title itself usually does not need reprinting just for an address change, but registration and insurance records do. Update registration when you update your license, using the Maryland process above.
What else should I update after moving besides the DMV?
Set up USPS mail forwarding, notify your car insurer (your rate is ZIP-based), confirm your voter registration carried over, and update banks, your employer, the IRS (Form 8822), and any subscriptions or deliveries.
Is there a fee to change my address with the DMV?
Whether Maryland charges for an address change depends on what you're updating (license only, registration, or a replacement card). The Maryland steps above list fees when the state publishes them; if a fee isn't shown there, the official Maryland portal or office will show it when you submit.
