Green Vehicle Laws and Regulations in Georgia

Georgia Rules of the Road

Whether you drive a hybrid, electric car (EV), alternative fuel vehicle (AFV), or some other fuel-efficient car, you must follow the same rules of the road as all other drivers. GA Emissions Test Requirements

If your fuel-efficient vehicle has the ability to run on regular gasoline, it must undergo an emissions test as part of first-time GA vehicle registration and registration renewal. GA Auto Insurance Requirements

Even eco-friendly drivers must meet Georgia's minimum car insurance requirements.

However, the good news is that some car insurance providers offer discounts to green drivers. For example, you might get a percentage knocked off your overall premium because you drive an electric, hybrid, or other fuel-efficient vehicle. Or, your provider might give you a discount for being a low-mileage driver.

Check with your current car insurance agent about such discounts and if your provider currently doesn't offer any, consider shopping around for one who does.
