Traffic Schools

Why Sign Up?
Traffic schools are a great resource for beginning and advanced drivers, alike. Attending the school may be a choice you make to improve your driving, or perhaps reduce insurance rates or accumulated points on your driving record.
You may need to attend traffic school because of a court-order if you commit particular traffic violations. The state of Wyoming does not offer a state-wide program or a list of state-approved schools, but you can find traffic schools listed in your local yellow pages or online.
Senior Drivers
If you're a driver older than 50, check the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Web site for driving refresher courses in your area. These regularly scheduled classes usually cost around $10, and may allow you a discount on your car insurance.
Auto Insurance Premiums
Check with your own insurance agent about discounts you may be eligible for if you attend traffic school. Many companies offer discounts on your auto insurance premiums based on your age or your driving record, so be sure to ask if you qualify. You'll also want to compare the discount to the course price; sometimes the discount will not offset the cost.
Traffic Tickets and Points
Because Wyoming doesn't implement a points system, attending a traffic school will not help in that regard. But some local courts may reduce the cost or the violations on a traffic ticket, depending on the violation and your previous driving history, or they may even dismiss the ticket altogether if you attend traffic school. Check with the local courts about this option if you get a traffic ticket. The ticket should have the court's phone number printed on it.
DWUI
If you are convicted of driving while under the influence (DWUI) of drugs or alcohol, the courts may order you to attend a traffic school. Each individual court decides whether that will be part of your sentence; it is not mandated by state law.
