Moving Out of State

Permanent Moves
If you're leaving the Equality State on a permanent basis, you need to surrender your license plates back to your county treasurer's office, after you've received plates from your new state.
Just enclose a note with the plates indicating you want them to be canceled, due to the move out of Wyoming.
You should also alert the state about your change of address within 10 days of the move by sending a completed change of address form, or a letter containing all the necessary information, to:
- Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT)
- Driver Services
- 5300 Bishop Blvd.
- Cheyenne, WY 82009-3340
Also, don't forget to notify your vehicle insurance company.
Temporary Moves
If you're leaving Wyoming on a temporary basis, you must alert the state about the change of address within 10 days of the move.
Simply send a completed change of address form, or a letter containing all the necessary information, to:
- Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT)
- Driver Services
- 5300 Bishop Blvd.
- Cheyenne, WY 82009-3340
Your information will be updated in the Driver Service's system at no charge, but you won't be given a new license.
Preparing for the Move
Make matters easier for yourself by either before or shortly after moving visiting our "New to Your State" section, which gives an overview of driving-related tasks that should be tackled immediately after you settle into your new home.
Military Information
Those in the military who will be temporarily living outside of Wyoming should check out our Drivers in the Military section for important registration and license information regarding their unique situation.
