License Plate FAQs
While adjusting my truck's radio, I veered into a cottonwood tree. The truck fared okay, but the front license plate was bent in half like a cheese omelet. Do I have to replace it?
Yes. All license plates must be legible. To do so visit your local county treasurer's office. Be sure to bring your registration and vehicle information (make, model, vehicle identification number). Cost: $8.
There is no downloadable, state-wide form. Each county uses its own application for duplicate plates.
Don't know the how, when or why, but my truck's license plates have gone missin'. What now?
You follow the same steps as listed in the answer above: visit your local county treasurer's office. making sure to bring your registration, vehicle information (make, model, vehicle identification number) and cash or check to pay the $8 fee. With your new plates, you'll also be issued a new registration form.
If I order duplicate plates, can I display them on my vehicle right away
No. Before you can fasten duplicate plates to your car you must wait for the validation stickers on your lost or stolen plates to expire.
What's the story behind temporary worker decals?
A worker from another state with valid registration and plates, who is working in the state for 90 days or less, can opt for a temporary worker decal over registering his or her vehicle in Wyoming (anyone working in Wyoming is required to register his or her vehicle). Applications cost $35 and are valid for 90 days. To apply contact the county treasurer from the county which you are working in.
How long does it take to process specialized plates?
Swallow a patience pill. Expect a four- to six-week wait for your specialized plates to arrive in the mail.
How can I verify if a specialized plate number is available before submitting an application?
Call the Department of Transportation at (307) 777-4709.Does Wyoming offer antique plates?
Yes, the state does have these plates, but they're called "pioneer" plates.
Visit our License Plates & Placards page for more information, including how to apply for the plates.
Do I need to surrender my license plates?
If you move out of Wyoming, sell your car, donate it to charity, or upgrade to a specialty license plate, you will need to surrender the old plates to your county treasurer's office.
