I keep reading about different classes of driver's licenses. What do they all mean?

There are seven classes of WV driver's licenses, based on the type of vehicle you can drive:

• Class A: Combination commercial motor vehicles over 26,000 pounds

• Class B: Single commercial motor vehicles over 26,000 pounds

• Class C: All other commercial vehicles and buses

• Class D: Non-commercial vehicle for hire

• Class E: Passenger vehicles

• Class F: Motorcylce only (not just an endorsement)

• Class X: Identification card (for those who don't drive)

What is the "Drive for Five" program?

In order to help you more easily remember when your driver's license or identification card is going to expire, West Virginia uses the "Drive for Five" program. Your license or ID card will expire on your birthday every year that your age is divisible by five. For example, your license or ID will expire when you turn 25, 30, 35, and so on. It may take a few years to phase you into the program.

Do I really have to wear my seat belt at all times? What if I'm just driving half of a mile down the street?

Per Click It or Ticket, launched in 2001, you are required by law to wear your seat belt at all times. Infractions such this can lead to license suspension and revocation. If you're just driving half of a mile, it shouldn't bother you for too long.

I think my driver's license was stolen. What should I do?

You're not required by law to report a lost or stolen driver's license to the police in West Virgina. However, you might want to in order to protect yourself from identity theft. Be sure to get a replacement as soon as you can.

Everyone talks about how awful their driver's license photos are, but I plan to look good. Can I wear my new Dolce and Gabbana shades?

You sure can, but not until the drive home. Nothing can obstruct your appearance in your license photo; this includes sunglasses and hats.
