Need to renew your registration? You have three choices to accomplish this task.

In Person

To renew at a Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) service center that offers this option, just take your registration renewal form and payment to the location. You'll pay an extra $3 for renewing at the service center.

You may allow another person to renew your registration.

If you don't feel like waiting in line, drop your renewal notice and payment in the registration drop-off box located at each of the DMV centers that offers the registration renewal service.

You may also renew at an authorized third-party location. However, be prepared to pay up to an extra $10 for this convenience.

Mail

To renew by mail, just send your renewal form and payment to the address listed on the notice. Your renewal stickers will be mailed within 10 days of receiving your paperwork.

Online

Perhaps the simplest way to renew is to do so online. Most vehicle registrations can be conducted in this manner.

However, you must have a registration renewal number, as listed on your renewal card. Also, your current address, vehicle, and license plate number must be correctly recorded on the renewal card.

You may pay your fee with your Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card, or American Express credit or debit card. A $1 service fee will be added to your total.

Be sure to wait at least 24 hours after passing your emissions test (if needed) before conducting your online renewal.

Late Fee

A $10 late fee is automatically added to any registration not renewed on time.

Expiration

Vehicle registrations expire every 12 months. Be aware that your registration can expire at any point in its expiration month. However, the date will be marked on your registration and the renewal notice.

Replacement Renewal Notice

You should receive your reminder notice about a month before the registration expiration date.

If you don't have your renewal registration notice, just complete the substitute renewal form. You may use the form in place of your renewal notice.

Fees

Registrations fees vary depending on the type of vehicle, and whether the plates are personalized. However, for passenger vehicles, the fee is $75 for cars with standard plates, and $90 for those with personalized plates.
