Washington, D.C., no longer requires drivers to submit any information to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in the event of an accident.

While there's no set procedure to follow in case you have an accident, you should stop, move the vehicles off the road if possible, and make sure no one is hurt. If someone is injured, call an ambulance and provide aid to the degree that you're capable.

For insurance purposes, you should exchange the following information with the other driver involved in the accident:

  • Name
  • Address
  • License plate number
  • Insurance company and ID number
  • Driver's license number
