DC Driver's Examination Study Guide
Although the DC Department of Motor Vehicles does not publish a handbook detailing all the rules of the road, its Web site offers the DC Driver's Examination Study Guide. The multiple-choice questions (answers are in the back) will help you brush up on topics you'll see on the driver's and motorcycle rider's written tests.
The study guide covers DC traffic regulations, basic road safety knowledge, and practice questions for the driving test. While the guide is available online only in English, the test may be administered in English, Spanish, Mandarin, and Vietnamese.
This booklet will help you prepare to take the knowledge test for a learner's permit for first-time drivers, and it can also help those licensed elsewhere to familiarize themselves with the DC driving laws.
It also contains a handy overview of the on-road driving test that you will have to pass in order to get your license. The study guide lists the items that you should bring with you on the day of your test and how you should prepare. It's important to read this section because if you don't satisfy these requirements the first time, you will have to reschedule your driving test and try again.
The guide tells you what the test examiner will be looking for as he evaluates your driving skills. Then the booklet provides questions and answers about the District of Columbia traffic regulations. Test your knowledge by comparing your answers to those in the back of the booklet.
Study this guide before you go in to take your written test, as you will not be allowed to refer to it during your test. Additionally, the booklet contains information you'll need for the motorcycle endorsement demonstration test.
You can also pick up a copy of the study guide at any DMV service location.
