Vermont lumps motor homes into the same category as cars when it comes to registering. This means you are required to register your motor home on an annual basis with the Department of Motor Vehicles.

First-time Registration

You must complete a Vermont Registration, Tax and Title Application. It's a two-page form that looks hopelessly daunting. Realizing this, the DMV offers a small instruction manual to assist you in filling out the application.

Send in the application with the appropriate fees (see below) to this address:

  • Department of Motor Vehicles
  • 120 State St.
  • Montpelier, VT 05603-0001

The DMV will mail you your registration and license plates. The entire process takes about three weeks.

Renewing Your Registration

You should receive a renewal application by mail about three weeks before your registration is about to expire. You can sign it and drop it off at a DMV office with the required fees.

You can also submit it by mail to the Montpelier address listed above. If you choose the post office, it will take about two weeks for your renewal to be processed.

To save time and effort, you can renew online via Vermont's DMV Express service and pay by credit card.

If you do not receive a renewal application in the mail, you will instead have to complete a Vermont Registration, Tax and Title Application and drop it off at the main DMV office in Montpelier (the satellite offices cannot process this) with the appropriate fees or mail it to the address above.

Transferring Your Registration

If you want to transfer your registration from one motor home to another that you also own, you must complete a Vermont Registration, Tax and Title Application. Mail the application to the main DMV office in Montpelier along with your current Vermont registration and all appropriate fees.

Before a transfer can take place, make sure a change of legal ownership of the motor home you are transferring from has already
ocurred.

Registration Fees

  • Gas motor home: $50
  • Diesel motor home: $27
  • Other fuels: $86.75
