Registration Renewals

What to Do
The DMV allows you to renew online, in person, or through the mail.
Online
Renewing online, or what the DMV calls the "DMV Express," is easy and fast. All it takes is logging on and using either a credit (MasterCard, Visa, Discover) or debit card to pay. There is no additional online fee. Your new registration certificate and decal will be mailed within three to five days.
You don't need to be computer-wise to use the Internet option. The DMV's online page provides easy-to-follow directions.
In Person
If you've waited until the final hours to renew this is your best option. You'll receive your new
registration certificate and decal immediately, protecting you from the dumb-luck possibility of getting fined for driving with an expired registration.
Visit either your town clerk or the main DMV office in Montpelier. Be sure to bring your renewal form and the ability to pay your registration fee (listed on renewal form).
Only use this option if you enjoy at least a 14-day window before your registration expires. Renewing by mail generally takes two weeks for you to receive your new registration loot. Send a check, not cash.
Mail to:
- Department of Motor Vehicles
- 120 State St.
- Montpelier, VT 05603-0001
Registering Without a Renewal Form
If your renewal form does not arrive in the mail don't panic that you've fallen out of favor with the DMV. Generally, blame falls on simple oversight.
Regardless, to compensate you'll need to complete a Vermont Registration, Tax, and Title Application and directly deliver it to the DMV's main DMV office in Montpelier. Be sure to bring check or cash to pay your registration fee.
