Unrestricted License
- You must have 20/40 vision in at least one eye, with or without glasses or contacts.
- Each eye must have 60 degrees of visual field; both eyes must have 60 degrees of visual field.
Restricted License
- You must have a minimum of 20/40 vision in at least one eye.
Top Hearing
There are no restrictions against deaf or hearing impaired drivers.
To improve communication with police and emergency personnel, brightly colored "Deaf" and "Hard of Hearing - Speak Clearly" license stickers are available. If interested, contact Vermont's Secretary of State office at (802) 828-2148.
Top Seizures
If you harbor a medical condition that can ignite blackouts or loss of consciousness, you and a certified physician must complete a medical evaluation form. Mail it to:

- Montpelier, Vermont 05603-001
The DMV will then evaluate your situation before informing you whether or not you'll be allowed to apply for a Vermont driver's license. If you already have a license, it may place restrictions on your license, or require further updates or testing.
