Replacing a Lost Title in Texas

Replacing a lost Texas title can be done in person or by mail. You can download the form for free if you have Adobe Acrobat Reader; if you don't have that, it's also available as a free download.
You'll need to complete an Application for a Certified Copy of Certificate of Title and submit it with your current valid photo ID and the appropriate fees.
Obtain Duplicate Title by Mail
Submit to your regional service center office:
- A completed certified copy of title application
- A copy of the owner's valid photo ID
- Check, money order or cashier's check for $2
Obtain Duplicate Title In Person
Visit your regional service center office to get a replacement title in person. Bring with you:
- A completed certified copy of title application
- Valid photo ID
- Cash, check, cashier's check or money order to cover $5.45 fee
If you have a lien on your vehicle, the lienholder will need to request the replacement title.
power of attorney
You can sign a limited power of attorney for someone else to get the title for you, if you can't get to the title office yourself. With that power of attorney, the person will also need to show their own photo ID as well as a copy of yours.
