Page OverviewReplacing a CDL
All Texas commercial driver license (CDL) replacement requests, whether for lost, damaged, or stolen licenses, must be completed in person at a driver's license office.
As with CDL renewals, you can't apply for a duplicate CDL by mail, e-mail, phone, or any other method, nor while the driver is outside of Texas. This also applies to name changes and all other alterations to any Texas CDL―all changes must be done in person at a driver's license office.
Replacement Cost
These tighter restrictions are related to the new national security regulations pertaining to the issuance of CDLs. These requirements are mandated by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
A duplicate CDL costs $11 and will expire on the same date as the original.
