Manuals in Texas

The Texas Department of Public Safety provides a number of manuals online for drivers of all types of motor vehicles. These booklets will help you learn the rules of the road and pass the written exams required to become licensed, so they're well worth downloading and studying thoroughly. Manuals are available for regular and commercial drivers and for motorcycle riders.
To view, download, save, and―if you have enough paper―print these manuals, you'll need Adobe's free Reader software.
You may download any or all of the manuals that apply to your driving situation:
- Texas Drivers Handbook (104 pages)
- Texas Commercial Motor Vehicle Drivers Handbook (158 pages)
- Motorcycle Operators Manual (28 pages)
These manuals cover everything from rules of the road to equipment inspections and liability insurance. The CDL manual even offers test questions at intervals in the text. Using these questions as a guide, you can gauge your own readiness to take the knowledge test portion of the commercial driver licensing exams.
If you'd rather pick up a hard copy of any manual, you can get them at any driver licensing office.
