Replacing a Lost License in Tennessee
- Replacement Process
- Out of the State or Country
- Replacement Fees
Page OverviewIf your license has been lost, stolen, or destroyed, you'll need to apply for a duplicate at your local driver license station, or online if eligible.
Replacement Process
If you apply in person, you'll need to take the same identification documents as required when you applied for your license for the first time. Remember to take your marriage license, divorce decree, or other court document if your name has changed since your last license was issued.
As always, only originals or certified copies of these documents will be accepted.
If you're eligible to apply online, make sure you have a credit card or check card ready to pay the duplicate fee.
Out of the State or Country
Thanks to TennesseeAnytime, drivers who are temporarily out of state or visiting another country can replace their lost licenses online―if, of course, they meet the eligibility requirements.
Otherwise, you'll need to contact your local driver license station for specific steps. Certain circumstances may allow you to get a duplicate license by mail; others may require you to visit a station.
Replacement Fees
The duplicate fee will depend on how many duplicates you've applied for during the renewal cycle. The fee is $8 for your first duplicate, and $12 for every duplicate after your first.
