Even though you don't yet have the option to renew your Tennessee vehicle registration online or by telephone, the process to renew in person is quite painless.

Approximately one month before it's time for you to renew your car registration, the Tennessee Department of Revenue will mail you a courtesy renewal notice.

Once your renewal date arrives, visit your local County Clerk's office. You'll need to take:

  • Your registration renewal notice.
  • Your current registration card.
  • The $24 fee.

It's important to note that the Department of Revenue sends vehicle registration renewal notices out as a courtesy only. It's in your best interest to mark your calendar with the expiration date just in case you don't receive a reminder.
