I'm 63 years old, and would like to have my picture taken off of my driver's license. Can I do this?
Yes. As long as you are older than 60 you can have a driver's license without a photo. Simply renew your license through the mail or online indicating your non-photo preference. You'll receive your new license in the mail.
What is a hardship license?
A Class H license, also called a hardship license, is granted to teens between the ages of 14 and 16 in special family hardship circumstances only. The license is only valid for passenger vehicles (Class D) and motorcycles (Class M).
For more information about hardship licenses, download the Hardship Driver License/Certificate Policy.
What is a Certificate for Driving?
A Class TD license, also known as a Certificate for Driving, is available for a person who isn't eligible for a Tennessee driver license, such as someone in Tennessee with a work or school visa.

I just got my learner permit, and my Dad won't let me drive my older sister to the mall. I told him that as long as she's with me it's legal, but he insists he has to be with me. Which of us is right?
Your Dad's not going to like this, but you're right. As long as your sister is a licensed driver, at least age 21, and able to take control of the vehicle if necessary, it's legal for you to drive to the mall with her.
Can I get a handgun carry permit from the Department of Safety?
You sure can. As of October 1996, you can get your handgun carry permit from the DOS; before that, they were only issued by local sheriff's departments.
For more information, check out Tennessee's Handgun Carry Permit FAQs, or call (615) 251-8590.
Can I use my checks as a proof of residency? My address is printed on them.
Checks can't be used as proof of residency, though a bank statement can. Tennessee provides an list of acceptable residency proof online.
How can I reschedule my road test?
Go to TennesseeAnytime's Cancel an Appointment section, or call the DOS at (615) 741-3954.
I've heard that some driver license stations offer services that others don't. Is this true?
Yes. Visit Tennessee's Driver License Station Web page for specific services offered by each station, as well as contact information.
Luckily, you don't have to seek license services from the station in your county. You can go to any station that offers the services you need.
