    Top How to Apply

There are three basic steps to applying for a state job in Tennessee.

    Step One

Before you begin the application process, take some time to research the job service information. This will give you the opportunity to search jobs, find available jobs, keep up with job-related announcements, and give you information about testing and other job requirements.

    Step Two

Once you know what job you'd like to apply for, you'll need to fill out an application. You can do this in one of three ways:

    • Apply online (this requires you to set up an account).
    • Request that the application be sent to you through the mail by calling (615) 741-4841.

    Mail applications to:

    • Department of Personnel
    • Applicant Services Division
    • Second Floor, James K. Polk Building
    • 505 Deaderick St.
    • Nashville, TN 37243

    Step Three

This is the toughest step of all―wait.

Your application will be reviewed, and if you meet the minimum requirements the testing process will begin. (Most jobs don't require testing, but if the one you've applied for does, you'll receive notification and testing admission in the mail two to three weeks after applying.)

Later you will receive a rating based on your education and experience, and if your rating is a passing one, you'll be placed on a list of eligible candidates for that particular job. This is usually taken care of four to six weeks after you apply, though it could take longer considering the current number of applications.
