Looking for a job or internship with the Department of Public Safety, Department of Revenue and Regulation, other state agencies or any number of government jobs?

    Then, BOP to it!

BOP is the acronym for the Bureau of Personnel, the agency that oversees the hiring of state personnel.

You can find all sorts of different state jobs, including positions as highway patrol troopers, senior accountants, bison herd managers, and many more at BOP.

You'll need to be an active searcher, though, as new jobs are added every Tuesday and Friday, and applications are only accepted when there is a job vacancy. So, submitting an application in the hopes that it will cover all future openings won't cut it. However, you can join the state jobs list network and have new openings e-mailed to you.

BOP does accept resumes. However, you will need to include one of the following application forms along with it:

You may submit your completed form online. You may also mail, fax, or e-mail it to:

    • PMB 0141-1
    • Bureau of Personnel Central Office
    • Capitol Building
    • 500 East Capitol Ave.
    • Pierre, SD 57501-5070
    • Fax: (605) 773-4344

You may search for job openings in a number of ways. You may look at all job openings, or just the latest ones. You may also sort the results by title, department, or location.

BOP has a host of application tips to help you fill out a winning application. Additional helpful information about the application process is also available.

In most cases, after you've sent your application, it will be forwarded to the appropriate agency. If you appear to be a good candidate for the position, you will be contacted for an interview. You will always receive an e-mail acknowledging the receipt of your application, as well as a notice when the position is filled.

If you need a nudge in the right direction, South Dakota Career Center personnel can help you determine what sort of job might be good for you. They'll also help you spruce up your resume, locate possible job openings, and give you interviewing tips.

Good luck with your job search!
