Rhode Island provides three pay options for drivers to settle traffic tickets: phone, Internet, and mail. When you receive a ticket, you'll be handed a pamphlet that explains payment procedures. And, so as to clear any deadline confusion, a date before which you must respond to either the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal (RITT) or the designated municipal court will be posted on your ticket.

Pay Your Ticket by Mail

To avoid additional fines, you must mail a check or money order by the date on your ticket to:

  • Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal
  • 345 Harris Ave.
  • Providence, RI 02909-1082

This is the most frequently recommended payment method. There are no additional costs and you don't have to find the time to appear in court.

Pay Your Ticket by Phone

You can only pay your Rhode Island traffic ticket by phone if you're dealing with the RITT. Municipal courts do not accept phone payments.

To pay over the phone, dial 1-877-435-9361. MasterCard, Visa, and Discover are accepted. You'll be charged a $3 convenience fee for this service.

Pay Your Ticket Online

This handy feature allows you to settle your ticket on the Internet. Visa, MasterCard, and Discover are accepted. And, just like the phone option, a $3 convenience fee is added. This payment method can only be used to pay RITT tickets.

Challenging Your Ticket

If you decide to protest your charge, you must appear in court on the date specified on your ticket. There, you can plead not guilty and a trial date will be set.

If you are declared innocent during the trial, the violation will be brushed off your driving record. If you are found guilty, you must inmediately pay all judge-ordered fines, assessments, and costs. If you cannot pay and skip on establishing a payment schedule, your license will be immediately revoked.

Once a trial date is set, do not shrug it off. If you fail to appear on the set date, the repercussions include loss of license, heavy court costs or fines, and a civil arrest warrant.

Appealing the Court's Decision

If you opt to appeal the outcome handed down by the Traffic Tribunal or Municipal Court, you must register a Notice of Appeal within 10 days and pay a $25 fee. Your case will then be reviewed by an Appellate Panel.
