First Time Drivers

It is the Pennsylvania DOT that issues the driver's licenses for all first-time drivers, regardless of whether you are 16 or 76 years old. Of course, most new drivers fall into the category of teen drivers in Pennsylvania.

Before you attempt to get a driver's license, you'll want to pick up a copy of the Driver Handbook published by the DOT. This manual will teach you about rules of the road in Pennsylvania, and it will also tell you how to apply for your first driver's license.

Statistically, teen drivers are involved in a high percentage of car accidents. Because of that, first-time drivers should get all the practice they can before they get behind the wheel. Driver education and training can help make you a safer driver―and make the roads of Pennsylvania safer for all.
