Moving Out of State in Oregon
Permanent Moves
Address Change
If you're leaving Oregon permanently, notify the Driver and Motor Vehicles (DMV) of your change of address within 30 days of the move.
Change your address for free online, or by sending a completed change of address form to:
- DMV Headquarters
- 1905 Lana Ave N.E.
- Salem, OR 97314
When you receive a driver's license from your new state, your old license will be sent back to the Oregon DMV.
Disability Placards/Permits
A disabled placard or permits must be returned to a DMV office, or send it to:
- DMV Headquarters
- 1905 Lana Ave N.E.
- Salem, OR 97314
License Plates
Though Oregon law does not require you to surrender your license plates, it's still a good idea to protect your identity. The state can also recycle the plates.
Surrender your Oregon license plates once you've obtained plates from your new state. Mail the plates to:
- DMV Headquarters
- 1905 Lana Ave N.E.
- Salem, OR 97314
Insurance
Don't forget to alert your vehicle insurance company about your move.
Temporary Moves
If you're moving outside the state temporarily, alert the DMV of the move if it means a change of residence.
Do this for free online or by sending a completed change of address form to:
- DMV Headquarters
- 1905 Lana Ave N.E.
- Salem, OR 97314
This will change the address on your license and registration records. The DMV will send you a sticker with your new address to place over the address section of your license. Registration cards with your new address are issued only by request.
