In Oklahoma, if you have been ticketed with a moving violation, you will most likely be required to pay a fine, depending on the type of violation. You may pay your fine in one of two ways:

  • Send a check for the amount indicated on the ticket along with a copy of the ticket. Be sure to write the ticket number on your check or money order.
  • Send a copy of your ticket along with your credit card information written in the space provided on the back of the ticket.

Mail either of the above to:

  • Oklahoma City Municipal Court
  • P.O. Box 26487
  • Oklahoma City, OK 73126-0487

If you wish to plead not guilty at your arraignment and want to set a trial date to appear before the judge to discuss your case, you must pay the amount of the fine for your ticket, plus an additional $35 bond posting fee. Hang on to your bond post receipt and be sure to bring it with you to court on the day of your trial.

Traffic School

In many cases, you may have the option of going to traffic school in exchange for a removal or reduction of the fine. By attending traffic school, you will most likely be allowed to have the violation removed from your driving record, which will decrease the possibility of an increase in your insurance rates.

Traffic school is usually a six to eight-hour long course (classes are available days and evenings) that teaches the basics of safe and defensive driving. By attending the class, paying the enrollment fee, and passing a basic test to show that you understood the course materials, the infraction will then be removed from your driving record.

You can find a traffic school near you from this listing of approved traffic schools by city. There are some online traffic schools, such as DrivingUniversity.com that you may be permitted to attend and complete online.

Be sure to check with the Court before you engage in any traffic school to make sure that it is acceptable for your circumstances.

If you are interested in participating in a defensive driving course but have not been ordered to do so by the Court, you may contact the Oklahoma Safety Council for information on upcoming defensive driving classes in your area.

Serious Violations

In the case of serious violations such as those related to driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and other serious driving infractions, the perpetrator is not usually allowed to choose the traffic school option. Depending upon the circumstances, the driver could face fines, criminal charges, and jail time.
