The tag fell off my car last week. How do I replace it?

You'll need to complete an Affidavit for Replacement License Plate/Decals and submit either in person or by mail through your local tag office. The fee for a replacement tag is $10.50.

I backed into another car in the parking lot, damaging my tag. Can I get a new one?

Sure. Complete an Affidavit for Replacement License Plate/Decals and submit either in person or by mail through your local tag office. The fee for a replacement tag is $10.50. They may request the damaged tag, so be prepared to surrender it if asked.

Can I get a personalized plate for my new car?

Yes, you can personalize your license plates, and Oklahoma provides a variety of plate colors to choose from. Get all the information at The Unofficial DMV Guide's page.

Does Oklahoma offer antique or classic license plates?

Yes, it does. See our License Plates & Placards article for details about the plates and the application process.

Will I get a reminder notice to renew my tag?

Maybe. The state mails them out, but if you don't receive one you are still required to renew on time. You don't need the renewal notice to renew; just visit your local tag office with your current papers and the appropriate fees and your renewal will be processed.

Do I have to get an emissions test on my car before I can register it?

Emissions testing is not required in Oklahoma. At times, your vehicle may need to be inspected for an odometer reading, but this is not a requirement each time.

How much will I pay to register my new car in Oklahoma?

The state provides a detailed explanation of the excise taxes you'll pay on your vehicle purchase. You'll also need to pay tag and registration fees, so check with your local tag office for the exact amount for your particular make and model.

Some of my friends told me to request the military registration rate since I enlisted. Do I get a discount?

Yes, your registration fee will only be $21. You'll need to complete a U.S. Armed Forces Affidavit and submit it with your application for registration or renewal.

If I move out of state, do I need to surrender my license plates?

No. Recycle them as you see fit in your new state.

Does the new standard plate design (issued January 2, 2009) affect me if I have a personalized plate?

You do not have to make any changes if you have a personalized plate or a special plate with a unique design.
