The automotive sales and service business will probably never be a paperless industry. There are multiple forms to be completed with each transaction and each form must be complete, with all information correct and in the proper place. It's a wonder, sometimes, that anyone completes an automotive sales transaction!

Just for starters, there are forms to file with the State to apply for your dealership permits. Then there are forms to be completed with each transaction. There are different forms for new car dealerships and used car dealerships and for titles, transfers, repossessions, liens, releases, and just about anything else related to the buying or selling of automobiles.

All new and used motor vehicle dealerships are governed by the Oklahoma Motor Vehicle Commission (OMVC).

    Forms

Most of the forms related to the buying and selling of motor vehicles both used and new can be found at the Oklahoma Motor Vehicle Commission forms Web page, and are available for download using the free Adobe Reader.

For example, you'll find registration, lien, repossession, transfer of ownership and many other dealer forms at the OMVC website.

    New Car Dealerships

In order to begin the process of becoming a licensed automobile dealer in Oklahoma, you must first file an Oklahoma Motor Dealer Franchise Application.

Included in the packet are the applications, financial information forms, business history forms, affidavit of extended service plan, manufacturer/distributors(s) lists, dealer sales and service agreements, management agreements, and facility inspection.

You must also supply five individual pictures of the following:

    • Front of the building.
    • Showroom.
    • Parts department.
    • Service department.
    • Service department exhaust system.

This packet, including the pictures and $200 fee per franchise, must be submitted by U.S. Mail to:
