Traffic Schools

OHIO TRAFFIC SCHOOL ONLINE SPONSOR
The successful completion of a course from one of the approved Ohio traffic schools may prevent violations from damaging your driving record. While in many cases a course just might get a traffic ticket dismissed, attending traffic school can also enhance your driving knowledge and skill level, and it may increase your overall safety awareness so that you, your family, and other drivers can be safer on the roads.

State-Approved Courses

Whether you were ordered to attend driving school by the court, or you just want to take a refresher course, Ohio has an option for you. Ohio Department of Public Safety-approved schools are
listed online according to county. Here you'll find remedial driving schools for adults or teens, and courses aimed at seniors. Additionally, the site lists commercial driving courses, regular driving schools, and driving schools for those with disabilities.

Ticket Dismissal and Point Reduction

Those with between five-11 points on their driving record may take a remedial driving course, and receive a two-point credit on their license.

By successfully completing the eight-hour long, classroom-only course, your license will be suspended if you reach 14 points, instead of 12.

Attending remedial driving school won't dismiss your ticket, but it'll improve your points record. This may help keep your insurance rates down.

Insurance Discounts

Since neither infractions nor points are being taken off your license, it's unlikely your insurance company will reduce your premiums after completing the course. However, since each insurance company handles business differently, it's best to contact your carrier to find out for sure.

Mature Driver Course

However, there's good news for drivers 60 and older: By successfully completing a state-approved mature driver course, you may receive a discount on your auto insurance premium.

The discount varies with the insurance provider, so contact your carrier to inquire about its Ohio mature driver program.

Cost and Other Considerations

Drivers may enroll in the remedial class once every three years, and five times in total. Contact the approved provider directly to enroll. The course fee varies according to the provider.

The Ohio Department of Public Safety oversees the driver training program courses. Contact the agency at (614) 466-2550 or:
