Does this state have a seat belt law?
The Buckle Up! Nevada law states that all occupants in a vehicle must have a proper seat belt on at all times. Children under the age of six who weigh less than 60 pounds must be in a child restraint seat or booster that is properly installed. Check out more details on the DMV's child safety seat information sheet.
Do I need a license to ride an off-road vehicle?
The DMV has prepared an information sheet on Motorcycle Equipment Requirements. If a vehicle does not meet these minimum requirements, it is considered an off-road vehicle and cannot be operated on public roads. However, there are no license or minimum age requirements to drive an off-road vehicle. This includes ATVs and snowmobiles.
If I have a regular Class C license and need to tow a large vehicle, do I need a commercial license?
As long as you're towing vehicles for recreational purposes only, there's no need to apply for a commercial driver license. You will, however, need to apply for a special endorsement:
- Endorsement R: For towing a vehicle or vehicles with a combined gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 10,000 pounds or less.
- Endorsement J: For towing a vehicle or vehicles with a combined GVWR of more than 10,000 pounds.
Check out the specialized study guide for these endorsements for specific information on written and driving tests.
To add an endorsement to your license, apply at a full-service DMV office. You can get more details about testing from the examiner.
I changed my name. Do I need to get a new license?
Yes. Come in to a full-service DMV office to complete the paperwork and to be issued a new license. This cannot be done by mail or online. You'll need to complete a new Non-Commercial Driver License Application and pay $7.25. Also bring the court documents, such as a marriage license or divorce decree, verifying the name change.
