Point Reduction in New Mexico

Determine Your “Course” of Action
Points will be dismissed from a violation if you complete a court-approved driving improvement school course. You may take advantage of this option once every 18 months.
Complete a NM Driving Safety Course
To receive credit, the driving improvement school must be court-approved. Before enrolling, double-check with the court that the school is sanctioned. You will not receive credit if you submit a course completion certificate from an unrecognized program. This cannot be emphasized enough.
NOTE: Albuquerque's Metropolitan Court requires registering for a course through the court. You can do this by calling (505) 841-8151 or in person with the Metropolitan Court Customer Service Division.
Submit Requirements to the Court
Some schools may automatically submit your completion certificate to the court. Otherwise you'll need to deliver the completion certificate yourself. Check with the school to be sure. Don't assume. Your points will not be removed from your driving record until the court has school verification.
Check Your New Mexico Driving Record
After completing the driving improvement school course, check your driving record for accuracy. Verify that points have not been added (rather than removed) to your driving record. Immediately contact the MVD if you notice any errors.
Get an Auto Insurance Discount
Increased car insurance rates usually coincide with traffic violations. Counter high premiums by shopping for a new provider. Comparing car insurance rates online is a fast and easy way for finding coverage that best meets your needs and your budget.
