The Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV), as a branch of the Department of Safety (DOS), is responsible for the issuance of driver licenses, titles, and registrations. These duties are divided among several types of locations:

• Driving licensing substations issue driver licenses and provide testing for driver license applicants.

• Registration substations deal with replacement registration cards and decals, license plates and temporary tags, and other driving-related matters.

• Town clerk locations handle a variety of matters, such as the issuance of titles, registrations, and license plates.

District Court Locations

Those choosing to contest a traffic ticket will do so through a district court.

Motorcycle Road Testing Locations

Take a motorcycle road test at one of these sites.

Salvage Inspection Stations

A Highway Patrol and Enforcement officer will perform a salvage inspection at an inspection station.

Appointments

Make an appointment to apply for a driver's license by calling a driver's license substation.

If you need to take a CDL road test, the state will mail you an appointment card after you pass the written test. If you fail the written test, you may make an appointment to take another test.

You may also make an appointment for vehicle inspections by calling an official inspection station.
