New Car Dealer

Becoming a new motor vehicle dealer in the state of Mississippi requires several steps.

First, you will need to complete a New Dealer Application. Along with the application, you will also need to include the following:

• $100 license fee

• Copy of franchise for each make of car you plan to sell

• Copy of latest Financial Statement of each Principal and for the Applicant (Business)

• Biography of principals

• List of your salesmen with $10 license fee and a Application of License for Salesman of New Motor Vehicles for each one

• Letter from lending institution addressing floor plan and business operation

• Labeled photos or sketches of your place of business

• $25,000 Mississippi Motor Vehicle Commission Bond of New Motor Vehicle Dealer

• Manufacturer's area marketing analysis

Used Car Dealer

Used car dealers in the state are governed by the Mississippi Tax Commission. You must call (601) 923-7000 to request a Dealer Packet, and one will be sent to you through the mail. The packet will include a Registration Application and instructions for completing the form. It will also include other pertinent information specifically for used car dealers.

You will need to complete the enclosed application and mail it back to the State Tax Commission, along with a $100 license fee, and post a Sales Tax Surety Bond.
