Moving Out of State in Maryland

Keep Your Maryland Driver's License
Keep your driver's license until you apply for one in your new state. At that time, your new state will take your Maryland license.
License Plates and Registration Refunds
Once you're settled in your new state, you must return your Maryland license plates to your local title service agent.
If you have at least 12 months remaining on your registration, you will receive a registration refund.
Contact Your New State's Agencies
When you leave Maryland behind, you also leave Maryland's rules and regulations behind. This means you need to familiarize yourself with your new state's policies regarding driver licenses, vehicle registrations, and the time limits you have to take care of them.
