My great-grandmother would like to surrender her driver's license. How can she do this?

Either she or her Power of Attorney will need to provide written authorization for the license to be cancelled. If she has a Power of Attorney, the OMV requires documentation of such.

She may still want some form of identification, and an identification card is the perfect way to get it. Plus, if she's at least age 60, there's no charge to receive a non-driver ID.

Can I apply for a hardship license online?

No. To find out if you're eligible for and to apply for a hardship license, you must speak with an OMV employee at your local OMV location or call 1-877-DMV-LINE.

I'm moving, and I need a clearance letter in order to get my license in another state. What should I do?

Here at DMV.ORG, we have broken down the basics of everything you need to know regarding driver licenses, identification cards, and operating motor vehicles.

However, at times you may need more in-depth information. Refer to Louisiana's Policies and Procedures regarding Driver's License Issuance, Driver's License Laws, and Safety Responsibility Laws.

What is the Mobile Customer Service Center?

The Mobile Customer Service Center (MCSC) is a new service offered by the OMV. The exterior is comparable to an RV, but inside you can complete many of the transactions you'd normally have to visit the OMV to complete.

The MCSC travels to colleges and universities, hospitals, large businesses, and other places that are occupied by a large group of people. The MCSC is very convenient, as it's not always possible to get to your local OMV before it closes.

The MCSC offers an online calendar so you can see when this service will be near you. For your convenience, you can even schedule a visit online.

How can I find the contact information I need?

Louisiana provides an online OMV Telephone Book; you should also check out the online list of OMV locations, directions, and business hours.

You can submit any questions or information requests by using the OMV Customer Inquiry form.
