Sight

You must have 20/40 vision in at least one eye, with or without glasses, to qualify for an unrestricted license. You will be required to wear glasses or contacts if you wore them to pass your vision test.

Hearing

There are no driving restrictions.

Seizures

Unlike most states, Louisiana does not impose a seizure-free period before you can start or resume driving. Your physician's recommendation to the Office of Motor Vehicles carries the most weight in determining your driving status.

Aging Drivers

Drivers 70 years old and up cannot renew their licenses by mail; it must be done in person.

Reporting an Incompetent Driver

Complete a Report of Driver Condition or Behavior form and mail to:

  • Office of Motor Vehicles
  • Attn: Driver's License Suspension Unit
  • P.O. Box 64886
  • Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70896-4886

Testing Accommodations Link for Drivers With Handicaps

Oral tests and and deaf interpreters are available by request.

Inquire with the Office of Motor Vehicles by calling (877) 368-5463, or using its e-mail contact page, or writing directly to your local licensing office.
