How to Apply
There are three steps to applying for a state job in Louisiana.
Step One
First, you must complete the Civil Service Pre-employment Application and the Employment Application Supplemental, if needed. The applications are available online in PDF.
To save time when applying for more than one job, leave the title blank and make copies of the otherwise completed application. For general information about getting a civil service job in LA, check the Department of State's Civil Service application page.
If you're applying for your Civil Service score, be sure to include the job title or register title.
Step Two
Next, get your Civil Service scores as State employers almost always require them before you apply.
If you're taking the written exam, take your application to the appropriate testing center. For ratings, take your application to the Baton Rouge testing center or mail it to:
- Department of Civil Service
- P.O. Box 94111
- Capitol Station
- Baton Rouge, LA 70804-9111
Refer to Louisiana's Civil Service Testing Information, Civil Service Exam Schedule, and Civil Service Sample Exam Questions Web pages for more information about taking your Civil Service exam.
Step Three
Finally, search for jobs. Each job posted will have its own application procedures, including whether or not your Civil Service score will be required up front.
Refer to Louisiana's Job Search FAQs for more information about finding and applying for a job.
