Replacing a Lost CDL in Kentucky

You must replace your lost commercial driver's license in person at the Circuit Court Clerk's office in your Kentucky county of residence.

Note that it's illegal to operate a commercial truck or any commercial vehicle without a valid CDL on your person. To combat identity theft, report your lost CDL to local and state authorities.

Apply for a Kentucky Duplicate CDL

Apply for your replacement CDL at your county's Circuit Court Clerk's office. Bring with you

  • Proof* of:
    • Identity.
    • Social Security number.
    • Residency.
  • Payment for the $12 fee.

For additional details—such as any additional CDL-related documents you must bring and acceptable forms of payment—contact the Circuit Court Clerk's office.

*NOTE: Be prepared to bring additional documentation for any endorsements you had on your CDL, as well as your medical certification paperwork.

Renew Your Kentucky CDL

Your CDL expiration depends on your age; if you lose your CDL within the eligible time frame to renew, the Circuit Court Clerk's office will renew your commercial driver's license.
