Moving Out of State in Kentucky

Transfer Your Kentucky Driver's License
When you move to another state, keep your KY driver's license until you transfer it to your new home state (see below for transfer instructions).
Depending on the state to which you move, you may or may not have to relinquish your old Kentucky license. If you're allowed to keep it, you may want to destroy it yourself to prevent identity theft or other illegal use.
For more information, visit the Federal Trade Commission's Fighting Back Against Identity Theft website.
Your Kentucky License Plate and Registration Refund
Once you get settled in your new state, send your Kentucky license plates to a county clerk's office so it can be canceled.
Kentucky doesn't offer registration refunds.
Contact Your New State's Agencies
Because each State handles driver licenses, vehicle registrations, and time limits differently, you must contact your new State's agencies to find out specific policies.
