Top Medical Requirements

There are certain medical requirements drivers in Kentucky must meet in order to obtain and maintain a driver's license.

The Kentucky Medical Review Board, which is made up of several doctors covering various fields, consults with the Division of Driver Licensing about issuing licenses.

Vision

To obtain a Kentucky driver's license, your vision must be 20/60 or better. You'll take a vision test before a license is issued and if you don't meet the vision requirements you'll need to see a vision specialist.

Seizures

Anyone who is applying for or who already has a Kentucky driver's permit or license must go at least 90 days without having a seizure in order to receive a driver's license, or continue driving legally.

The Medical Review Board and the applicant's or driver's physician must complete a Form TC 94-59.

Top Reporting a Driver

Anyone can report a driver to the Medical Review Board if he or she suspects or has witnessed a medical condition impairing the driver's ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

Specific reasons to report a driver include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Experiencing a seizure

• Experiencing a black out

• Erratic driving

• Prescribed medication side effects

Note that there must be two or more individuals reporting a driver to the Medical Review Board if the individuals aren't doctors, lawyers, police officers, or county employees.
