Dealers Handbook in Kansas

Helpful Pamphlet

Kansas, like most other states, requires those who wish to operate a motor vehicle dealership to complete an extensive licensing process. However, there is no official dealer handbook available to help guide you through the steps needed to obtain your license.

You'll need to simply read the Application for a Vehicle Dealer License (Form D-17a) carefully and contact the Department of Revenue's Motor Vehicles Division at (785) 296-3621 with any questions that you may have.

National Independent Automobile Dealers Association

National Independent Automobile Dealers Association (NIADA), a non-profit professional development group, represents motor vehicle dealers from across the United States.

Although the group is not affiliated with the Kansas DOT, they can help provide answers to many of your questions about the business of selling motor vehicles within your state.
