Replacing a Lost Title

Lost your vehicle title? Even though it's an important document, titles unfortunately get misplaced all the time.

So, if you need to replace your title, begin by going to a Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) license agency. Make sure to bring some sort of identification with you, such as a driver's license or state ID card. Also take something that will identify the vehicle, such as a registration card or the vehicle identification number (VIN). If there's a lien on the vehicle, you will need to present a completed release form from the lienholder.

If your paperwork is in order, you'll receive a replacement title for $9. It will take between four to six weeks to receive your title in the mail.

Speed Title

Don't have that much time? Then, apply for a speed title. Doing so will cost you an extra $25, but the BMV will mail out your title the very next business day.

You may pick up the title 72 hours after you've made the duplicate title request at the license agency. Be sure to bring proof of identification.

Once you've made the request, you can call (317) 591-5314 after noon to verify that your title is ready.
