DMV Employment
Employees handling motor vehicle and driver services in Illinois are part of the Illinois Secretary of State's office, as are members of the Illinois State Police. Civil service employment offers job security and substantial benefits.
Unfortunately, the state does not publish a list of vacancies, so you won't be able to find job openings online. Instead, you can inquire about job opportunities at the following locations:
- Office of the Secretary of State
- Department of Personnel
- 196 Michael J. Howlett Building
- Springfield, IL 62756
- (217) 782-4783
or
- Office of the Secretary of State
- Department of Personnel
- 17 North State St. Suite 1276
- Chicago, IL 60602
- (312) 793-5515
Job counselors at these offices can help you determine which jobs to apply for and supply you with application forms. You'll send your application to the address above that is nearest you. Don't send a resume―the application form is designed to tell the personnel department all it needs to know.
The above offices are also the locations for periodic open experience exams (testing). Applicants may be tested on their job skills and experience.
The Secretary of State's office is dedicated to being an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer. It is also compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and offers special considerations for military veterans.
