What You Need to Renew Online

  • Renewal postcard
  • Credit card and billing address (American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa)
  • Fee (this varies depending on the type of credit card you use, and the county you live in)

Convenience Charges

In addition to the regular fees associated with renewing your registration, expect to pay a convenience charge. However, you'll save a lot of time.

You'll pay a $1 Access Idaho fee; this goes toward keeping the online program up and running. You'll also pay a county fee in counties that do not have a separate fund set up to absorb the cost of transaction-related bank fees.

Note: Before your renewal is complete, you'll be able to view all the fees associated with using the online renewal program.

Which Registration Programs You Cannot Renew Online

If you have one of the following types of plates, online renewal is currently not an option. But don't fret; it won't be long before you'll see these registration programs on the list for Internet renewal:

  • Amateur Radio
  • Classic, Disabled Plates/Placards
  • Disabled Veteran, Medal of Honor
  • Military Reservist
  • National Guard
  • Old Timer
  • Pearl Harbor
  • Personalized Plates (all programs)
  • Former Prisoner of War
  • Purple Heart, Street Rod
  • Veteran
  • Year-of-Manufacturer

Note: You cannot use the online program to renew boat, classic, dealer, exempt, legislative, loaner, off-road, old timer, repossession, snowmobile, or transporter plates.

When You'll Receive New Decals

Expect to see the paperwork and new decals in your mailbox within 10 days. Print the receipt from the renewal site and store it in the glove compartment of that same vehicle; this serves as a receipt in case the new decals arrive late.

Note: If you were required to pay a new plate fee while renewing your special plates, you'll receive your paperwork and new decals within 21 days.
