Top What do I do when my license is about to expire?

Go to your local county driver's license office up to 364 days before your license is set to expire, and renew it if you are 21 or older. You can choose either a four- or eight-year renewal if you are between the ages of 21 and 62. Anyone younger or older than that must settle for a four-year license.

When you arrive, an examiner will check your vision if he/she sees fit. The examiner may also decide that you need a skills test, a visual exam, or a medical exam. Don't let the expiration date come and go. If you let your license expire by one year or more, you must retake the skills test and the written test.

Top Does my license indicate whether I am an organ donor?

Yes. When you apply for your license (or renew it), you will be asked to accept or decline the donor designation that appears on your license. If you accept, you will receive the word "donor" on your license, indicating that you wish to donate your organs or tissue when you pass.

You also must sign a Document of Gift before the driver's license office will add the designation to your license or ID card. After you sign the document, the Idaho Transportation Department will pass it along to the donor registry.

Top Do I have to register with the Selective Service System?

If you are a male between 18 and 25, you are required by federal law to do so. When you apply for your license, you can take care of this at your local county driver's license office.

Otherwise, eligible applicants who are younger than 18 will automatically be registered with the system upon their 18th birthday. The Selective Service System will receive notification should you decline the chance to register.

Top Must I report a change of address when I move?

Yes. You have 30 days from the date you change your address to update that info with the DMV. This will keep your records current so that you receive all renewal correspondence by mail. It may also save you a trip to the DMV when your license expires. Should an emergency occur, law enforcement personnel can efficiently notify you or members of your family as long as your address is current.

Top Must I change my address for voting purposes?

The state also requires you to submit an Idaho Change of Address Request (form ITD 3239) so that your info is updated when you register to vote. You can also take care of this when you head to your county clerk to register to vote.
