Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work at the Iowa Department of Transportation? If you're an outgoing person who enjoys helping others, a career in the Motor Vehicle Division may be right for you.

Iowa MVD employees enjoy an outstanding benefits package that includes medical, dental, disability, and life insurance; paid sick leave, vacation, and holidays; educational assistance; deferred compensation; flexible work schedules; and a generous retirement program.

To help job applicants learn more about career opportunities within the Motor Vehicle Division, the Iowa Deportment of Transportation (DOT) has prepared a short brochure.

How to Find a Job

Job applicants can find a listing of available Iowa MVD employment opportunities on the Human Resources Enterprise Web site. Occasionally, position information is also available on the Office of Motor Vehicle Enforcement Web site.

If you see an Iowa MVD job opportunity that interests you, an application can be obtained from your local Workforce Development Center. Alternately, you may call (515) 281-3087 to request an application via the Iowa DOT automated call processing system.

Completing Your Iowa DMV Job Application

When you're filling out your Iowa MVD employment application, remember to provide as much information as possible. You'll need to have addresses for former employers, dates of employment, salary history, and contact information for your professional references. You'll also need to describe your academic credentials, skills, and professional memberships.

If you find a question on the Iowa MVD employment application that does not apply to you, write "N/A" or "Not Applicable" in the space provided. If you simply leave the space blank, the interviewer may think that you have accidentally forgotten to answer the question. Remember to sign and date your application when you are finished.

Neatness counts! If possible, consider typing your application to prevent misunderstandings caused by illegible handwriting. If you must handwrite your Iowa MVD job application, use a black or blue ballpoint pen and write slowly to prevent errors.
