Paper Maps and Online Guides

Taking a road trip, going on vacation, or traveling for business? Have a map of the local area with you when venturing into new territory. You have many choices on the market today, so decide which tools suit you best.

Hard Copy

Rand McNally offers a large atlas of all the major highways throughout the U.S., updated each year. When you purchase a hard copy of the Atlas (available at Wal-mart, Kmart, Target, bookstores, some larger grocery stores and pharmacies), register your book online to take full advantage of all their premium services. You'll have access to the most up-to-date on major roads and highways throughout the country, and can get maps loaded to your cell phone, PDA, or GPS.

Also check with the local Chambers of Commerce or visitor's center of the area you plan to visit. They can provide you with detailed maps of the area, and offer advice on any potential problems you may encounter.

Software

Software is another option to consider for mapping capabilities. Microsoft's Streets & Trips is one such program and provides a gargantuan resource for navigation.

Online

Online, you have many options for navigation. Be sure to check out Google Maps, MapQuest, and AAA for more information.

Fodor's, Frommer's, and Lonely Planet provide extensive travel information too, so click on the links and plan your trip!
