Page OverviewWhat 511 Is
The Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) gathers information about almost everything that can impair the ability of motorists to arrive at their destination safely and smoothly, such as detours, accidents, road closures, poor weather conditions, and dangerous roadway surfaces.
The U.S. Department of Transportation, with the approval of the Federal Communications Commission, developed the ITS to increase traffic efficiency and safety on the nation's roadways.
511 Access
Hawaii, at this time, does not employ 511, America's traveler information number. A number of other states do. You can use 511 while you're traveling through those states using it.
After dialing 511, follow the voice instructions to access the information you're seeking. Some states also have online info access.
