Registration Renewals

The Sunshine State lets you renew your registration once a year, or every two years. Here are your renewal options.
Renewing in Person
To renew the old-fashioned way, head to a county tax collector office with your present registration or renewal notice, proof of insurance, and your payment.
Another individual may renew your registration for you, providing you give them all the necessary documents.
Renewing by Phone
Call (866) 467-3639 (GO RENEW) anytime to renew your registration using the automated phone system. You'll need to pay an additional convenience fee of $2.90 for using the service, however. You may pay with your Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card, or American Express credit or debit card.
Allow seven to 10 business days for the state to process your request. If you haven't received your renewal by then, stop by a county tax collector office. You won't have to pay your registration fee again.
Renewing Online
Those who prefer the ease of Internet transactions may renew online at any time. You may pay with your MasterCard or Visa credit or debit card.
As with renewing by phone, allow seven to 10 business days for the state to process your request. If you haven't received your renewal by then, go to a county tax collector office. You won't have to pay your registration fee again.
Registration Fees and Other Information
Renewal fees vary depending on the weight and type of the vehicle, but begin at $27.60.
Each local county tax office has the option of mailing out registration renewal reminders. Even if you don't receive your notice, however, you're still required to renew on time. If you don't renew by the last date of the month your registration expires, you'll receive the penalty of a late fee.
You can renew up to three months before your registration. If you do that and choose the two-year registration, that means you don't have to renew for 27 months.
In most cases, your registration will expire on your birthday. However, for commercial vehicles, the registration expires on May 31 (with a semi-annual registration) or December 31 (with an annual registration.) For mobile home registrations, the expiration date is December 31.
You may carry your registration with you, or keep it in your vehicle, as long as you can show it to the police when requested.
